For years I’ve been telling my friends and family that being perfect is over rated. Why bother? You know nobody likes perfect people. I, for one, am always suspicious of that perfect person who seems to do no wrong. Like, maybe they’re a robot of something?
I’ve always thought that striving for perfection actually brings about the opposite effect a person is trying to achieve. Like if you always try to look perfect, people will stop at nothing looking for your flaws and then happily sharing them with you or with others behind your back. Or, if you always try to have the most perfect manners, or are the perfect hostess or give the most perfect gifts… well that can just be crazy stressful in itself and when you’re stressed you aren’t exactly perfect are you? You’ll either flip your lid with the pressure of it all or your body will betray you and start showing your stress outwardly with pimples, rashes and migraines… not to mention ulcers and other nasty internal issues.
Brené Brown is having a “perfect protest” this week. She has a new book out about this very thing called The Gifts of Imperfection and I can’t wait to read it, it’s now officially on my wish list, and I think maybe I should have wrote something like this, but I’m sure she has it all covered. Maybe a sequel? Not that kind of book? Just thinkin’.
Make sure to hop on over and check out the goings on over at her great blog.

LOVE this!
I enjoyed your post – great points!
Love this, off to check out her blog!
Dad thinks he's perfect, I know I'm not!
I love that
Peaceful is so much better than perfect!
your sign is fabulous! i am protesting too, although in a lot of ways, I gave up trying to be perfect years ago!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog- love your thoughts on this topic!
Being peaceful sounds pretty perfect to me. You certainly won't be 'flipping your lid' or 'getting pimples' (you forgot to mention those stress-caused-cold-sores);-D from being peaceful.
Count me in this protest – my sign would say:
"Perfection is a Fraud.
Life Journeys are Real."
You have NAILED it!! I agree with everything you've written. And if we are too worried about how others "perceive" us, then we really aren't looking at how we can care/like them….people pick up on that. I opt for more peace over perfection anyday!! Love your sign
completely agree.
and I love the look of your blog… so looked at you about me .. and well yeah, you are a designer. it shows.
love it here… i'll be back
Love this! I was thinking in a similar way that perfectionism keeps me from feeling peaceful (which keeps me from being and acting peaceful which of course affects my environment and so on). So embracing my imperfections is a way to create world peace. Way to go!
Peaceful! Yes, love this:)
