There’s a lot of internet buzz right now about E.L. James trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey, Universal Pictures and Focus Features have even acquired screen rights to the stories!
It was originally published along with the two sequels, Fifty Shades of Darker and Fifty Shades of Freed, in its entirety, as Master of the Universe on ff.net. Master of the Universe reimagined the Bella and Edward love affair set in contemporary Seattle, Washington with Bella as the young college graduate virgin and Edward as the masterful billionaire with secret sexual predilections. This collection of submissions has since been deleted (I’m not positive, but I think I have me a downloaded copy of this on my first Kindle — need to find that little bugger!)
- Right now, the books are in the top six most downloaded in the Kindle Store, in 2nd place only to the Hunger Games trilogy.
- It holds the #1, 2 & 3 spots on the New York Times Bestseller List for eBooks, and Combined Print & eBook Fiction, #1 for Paperback Trade Fiction, #3 Combined Hardcover & Paperback Fiction.
- #5 in USA Today’s Top 10.
The book’s success is attributed to bloggers and the sharing of book reviews and recommendations on social media, as well as old-fashioned word of mouth advertising in physical coffee shops, and most probably at the school gates.
And the fun part of this for me is that I read the story way back when the author was on fanfiction.net, a site that hosts what is known as fan fiction, writing about Edward Cullen & Bella Swan from Twilight. Let me tell you, reading this story chapter by chapter, and waiting for the next chapter to be published … was torture, but as soon as I got my email alert I was online reading my treasured Twi-Smut.
Fair warning, the story is not for the conservative minded, buttoned down, or reserved person.
So, if you are not shy about sex and erotica, I highly recommend these books – go read them!

I read the first one. My only objection was Ana saying Oh, My, for everything. Good Grief, was there no proofreader or editor involved.
