Fabulous Font Friday // Marguerite

marguerite font

Marguerite is a newer font over on dafont.com, it debuted Cinco de Mayo, 2013 – OlĂ©!

There a few things that really stand out for me with Marguerite font. First, quite a few of the capital letters overlap other letters, like the F, I, K and L to name a few.

Also, it has a couple of floral dingbats that are really cute and a complete bonus to the set, I used them in the image above.

And, it’s a really pretty handwritten font. And, I love the retro vibe it has.

Another great font for blog headers and post signatures!

Oh my God John Krasinski!

I love Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and some of my favorite episodes are of him & Justin Timberlake singing… but who knew John Krasinski could hold his own with Jimmy? He’s great.

Nerd diy // how to make text cutouts

This is the video I watched to learn how to make text cut-outs in Photoshop Elements – if you’re happy to watch a video then please do, Melissa Shanhun from DigiScrapHQ is great – and she has an Aussie (I think) accent! I’m also going to give step by step instructions below.

So, in a couple of my last posts I used this effect, you can also see it on some other popular blogs like Jess Lively, which is the site that inspired me to do it.

I used Photoshop Elements to do this, but since Elements is the baby of the Photoshop family probably all other versions this will work as well.

Step 1: Start with your background image.

Step 2: Add a shape layer, any shape, color or size you want on top of your background image.

Step 3: Simplify the shape layer by right clicking on the layer and selecting Simplify.

Step 4: Add a new text layer on top of your shape layer.

Step 5: Move the text layer to the spot over your simplified shape layer in which you want the cutout to appear. Holding the CTRL button + click on the T in the text layer – this will select the text.

Step 6: In your Layers panel select your simplified shape layer & click delete – this will delete the shape of the text from the shape layer.

Step 7: Make your text layer invisible (deselecting the eye) and voila you now have a text cutout! I also like changing the opacity of this layer.

Hemlock Grove

First off, Netflix having original series is totally awesome. I am a huge fan of how they offer up every episode of that season all at once. That is like TV crack times a million. I watched House of Cards a couple of months ago and that was great, I really liked it. That show, with all of it’s amazing actors, gave you the seedy, slimy, but still very glamorous side of politics.

And, I’m not a habitual Netflix watcher so when I heard they had a new series out, Hemlock Grove, I was excited to give it a go this past weekend. And, in true addict behavior, I finished every single episode by Sunday night. With a migraine. That I still have lingering residual effects.

But, even though I watched the last couple of episodes with one eye closed, note the migraine, I still watched every last minute. Did I think it was great – maybe. There’s just so much that we got little peeks of that wasn’t explained for the viewer who didn’t read the book. But, it’s about werewolves & vampires and all that supernatural goodness that I love so dearly, so I’m considering getting the book to see what I missed.

And, see Lili Taylor in the back of the photo… I’ve loved her since Mystic Pizza – and am so happy to see her in new shows.

If you have Netflix and are a supernatural junkie, too, you must check it out.
